MAXIMIZE THE CAPACITIES AND MINIMIZE THE BARRIERS
Shankar Foundation’s Saaburi clinic for special needs aims at enhancing the overall development of the children to include them into mainstream society. It is an effective service model, in which a multi-disciplinary team works within an integrated framework with competency, consistency, continuity, coordination, and collaboration.
Interdisciplinary assessments:
Children with a variety of needs undergo careful evaluation, which include standardized assessments. The scores from these assessment tools helps to determine if a child is above, below, or at a normal developmental level. Careful clinic observation during the assessment, as well as parent or caregiver input, is utilized to determine the child's therapeutic needs. Labelling and Diagnosing is done only by professionals who are authorized to do so within their expertise and experience in different areas. Together, they will assess the child in the areas of:
Intelligence
Cognitive-perceptual skills
Social-emotional skills
Self help
Motor
Speech and language
and draw out a detailed profile of child in consultation with one-another. The family’s needs are also assessed, through detailed interview, along with assessing the child. The findings of the assessments are documented and a detailed report of the child’s profile is handed over to the parents.
Interdisciplinary interventions:
Service is initiated as soon as the problem is detected and is implemented with the involvement and participation of families. Intervention is conducted in a variety of settings as appropriate to the immediate needs of the child. Objectives are developed and implemented for each child and family jointly by the therapists, teachers, and parents. We provide on-going

Which focuses on how best to meet the child's, family’s and school’s needs. Intervention plans focus on needs, strengths, priorities, goals, and actions to be undertaken. This is regularly reviewed, evaluated, and documented in detail. Intervention maybe one-on-one or group sessions where specific needs of the child are focused upon.
Interdisciplinary evaluations:
At the review, professionals discuss in detail with the family about the progress and obtain a feedback regarding the same. Emotions of the family and concerns of the professionals are dealt, while looking at whether and how the child has benefited from the intervention program. Any changes that may be more effective will be considered e.g. change of therapist, teacher/school or diet, review with doctor about any medication (if necessary) etc.
